The Santa Rosa Marathon

I don’t always run other people’s races, but if I do, it’s probably only going to be for Nora. I’m counting this as my good-running-deed-for-the-year, and also my what-the-hell-were-you-thinking run of the year. I must have a real short memory when it comes to these things. Because I distinctly remember feeling like a used bowling shoe during happy hour after the last one.

This might sound stupid, but I gotta put it into words here so I can maybe not make the mistake anymore: running fulls are different than running halves, they require a lot more commitment. I heard this from Rob a while back, a guy I occasionally ran with before work, but it was something along the lines of, “Halves are fun, it’s right about the perfect amount of running”.

I want to do better, the runner in me want’s to, but it’s almost a week later and I’m still sore and don’t walk so well. I’m convinced fulls aren’t my bag, ask anybody else and they say it’s a natural progression from halves but I’m not convinced. I think I fall in the later half of people who aren’t built for fulls.

But I’m gonna do one more full for the year and probably make definitive decision on the matter. It’ll be on my birthday, so let the cosmic jokes ensue.
